xavier le roy | retrospective | museo jumex

retrospective by french artist and choreographer xavier le roy is an exhibition that inquiries into how we use, consume or produce time. the work is conceived as a choreography of actions to be carried out by six performers in the gallery space, effectively unfolding in three time-axes: the duration of each visitor’s experience, the daily labor of the performers, and the emergence of a new composition over the course of its three-week run. rather than aiming to show the development of an artist’s work over a period of time, the exhibition employs the notion of retrospective as a mode of production. it seeks to recast and transform material from le roy’s solo choreographies, created between 1994 and 2014, into live actions, where the apparatuses of theatre performance and museum exhibitions intersect.
